I would point out every concern that you have and price it extra high. Make sure you point out that nasty seam at the 20 second mark too.

She may be very frugal and particular. But she may not be frugal and is just untrustworthy having had bad experiences with previous cleaners being unethical with pricing once they were in her home. Maybe she will be happy to pay premium prices and for an additional filtration soil treatment if the pricing is simple and straightforward at this stage.

I charge people the same price regardless of how pleasant or difficult they are to deal with, or whatever means they have. I suppose I should start charging more if they are a pretty long distance away though...

I had a customer a long time ago (seems like start all my stories this way) who had worn groves so bad in their carpet from dragging their feet that it looked like a 2 track road. Their last name was coincidently Shuffler.

I would Rotovac that and tell her the exact (high) price it would require. I would also warn her that wear is not correctable. I would, in fact, give her so many warnings that I’d run the risk of talking her out of it.

If I can clean your place on Tuesday August 5th around 9AM I can do it for $325, as I'll be right around the corner for a ToastMasters meeting that lets out at 8:30.

Add $50 for a different date and time.


FYI, the double traffic lanes in your polyester carpet is not correctable. While it will be brighter, most of what you are seeing is permanent damage to the non resilient nature of older polyester fibers.

Tuesday, Aug. 5th at 9 a.m. will work.Don’t worry about the “double traffic lanes”…It always comes out fine. They have always pre-sprayed these areas before beginning, and that seems to take care of it. Thank you Mike!

I'd tell her the carpets will look brand new and like it was freshly installed when we're done. However, we'd insist on cleaning the master bedroom too because of how dirty it is. Then, I'd remind her of our money back guarantee and six month warranty.

Then, before giving her the price i'd ask her if she's taken heart medicine and if she's got a fully charged AED machine handy.
